Controversial minority rights group, AfriForum, has announced that a warrant of arrest has been issued for former Zimbabwean first lady, Grace Mugabe.

“We can report that the warrant of arrest has been issued for Grace Mugabe,” TimesLIVE reported AfriForum CEO, Kallie Kriel, said. “It seems that justice is going to take place and we are looking forward to this matter going forward.”

The warrant was issued by the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) on 13 December.

South African government had previously accepted a court ruling which stated that Mugabe’s diplomatic immunity was invalid.

“The conferment of diplomatic immunity on Mugabe is null and void, as the court has decided. We leave it to the NPA to see the way forward‚” International Relations and Cooperation Minister, Lindiwe Sisulu, was reported to have said in August.

Both the Democratic Alliance (DA) and AfriForum applied to have Mugabe’s diplomatic immunity taken away after it was alleged that she had assaulted South African, Gabriella Engels, in 2017.

Engels was reported to have been assaulted by Mugabe after it was alleged the model had been partying with her two sons at a hotel in Johannesburg.

Engels suffered a gash on her forehead following the incident, and Mugabe was allowed to leave the country while charges were laid as she was initially granted diplomatic immunity.
