Vagan Kahni – 🙁 FireFighters cannot get into the townships coz the residents build the homes *so* dangerously and insanely close together, and nor do they build them in rows so that roadways are formed 🙁

Amazing teams who have risen to do their very best for us. Well done all you dedicated people out there you are our heroes … Just so painful to see the devastation and heartache this ferocious element of nature has caused but just like the Phoenix we to shall rise and the fauna and flora will survive !

  • Donovan Senosi

Norma the fauna and flora or nature very often needs natural disasters to renew itself. An example is the fynbos who’s renewal is actually overdue by 15 years apparently. And as painful as it was, it’s just part of nature. What isn’t part of nature is modern humans living in mountainous areas and invading the lebensraum / living space or habitat of fauna and flora. This is not the first time table mountain had fires and it will not be the last time either. Fires on the mountain is only a threat to humans if we live on the mountain or too close to it. So in many ways this crisis and drama is fabricated and damages caused by the fire self inflicted. The only real victims being the pilot and fire fighters who died fighting the blaze. To crown it all,it is mainly the poor working class volunteers and fire fighters who try to safe the very expensive homes and maybe even holiday homes of the well off, while most of them don’t even have a home. All of this at a cost of millions to the rest of us tax payers. Very little mention is also made of the animal life destroyed i.e. the baboons ,who’s habitat we have almost completely taken over!! I’m sorry, as much as I would like to symphatise, I just can’t buy into this media frenzy and great big hype!!!

Wrong. This was not Cape Town’s worsr fire in 15 years. Well, maybe in the well-heeled parts of town. And while the public grief, concern, support and outrage towards this bush fire are welcome, it would be nice if this same concern and support would be felt when shack fires ravage the lesser spoken about parts of the city. “Between 1
December 2012 and 8 January 2013, almost 5,200 people were made homeless
by shack fires in Cape Town. 4,000 were left homeless in just one blaze
on 1 January 2013, when a fire at BM Section in Khayelitsha burned down
    1,000 shacks.” http://www.dailymaverick.co.za/article/2015-03-10-analysis-are-some-cape-town-fires-hotter-than-others/#.VQAUIYWIJYQ

I agree with menunited84… also the fires in 99-00 affected the entire peninsula from cape point to table mountain, & the overberg…
but the shack fires were much worse!
