Entries for the Cape Town Cycle Tour MTB Challenge have opened and the event will kick of the annual Cape Town Cycle Tour Lifecycle week.

The Cape Town Cycle Tour MTB Challenge will take place on March 2 2019, at the lush grounds of the Greater Simonsberg Conservancy, located in Stellenbosch the heart of the Cape Winelands.

Offering something for every skill and fitness level, the cycle challenge has three routes to choose from – 20km, 40km and a tougher 60km race. Each route has been designed by Dirtopia’s trail-building expert, Meurant Botha.

Marketing, Media and Sponsorship Director of the Cape Town Cycle Tour Trust, David Bellairs describes the different trails offered.

“Whatever your abilities, you’ll have the time of your life, racing these routes. The 20km includes a stretch of jeep track, while the more challenging 40km and 60km routes offer some of the most spectacular Simonsberg single-track riding on farms like Muratie, Kanonkop, Delheim, Uitkyk. It just doesn’t get any better!”

The new format of all races being held on one day will continue into the 2019 event. Although the short route is a mere 20km ride, it offers a great mix of scenery from sheltered forest sections to high open vineyards. The shorter route is perfect for families and beginner riders.

To test their skills, cyclists that are pros or serious enthusiasts will enjoy the longer routes, created with a tougher and more technical trail.

Bellairs says that the event is a must-attend for mountain-bikers.

“Holding all the MTB challenges in one place and on one day makes for an amazing atmosphere, with mountain-bikers of all levels enjoying the thrill of the routes and the celebrations afterwards,” he said.

Bellairs warns that entries are expected to sell out fast.

Online entries opened for the challenge on November 1 2018 and can be accessed here.
