A raging fire engulfed Tintswalo Atlantic’s main lodge building on Chapmans Peak on the morning of Tuesday February 5.
The City’s Fire and Rescue Services spokesperson Theo Layne says that teams responded to reports of a fire there during the early hours of the morning.
“The City and Fire Rescue Services responded at 04.06 am to Tinstwalo resort hotel, Chapmans Peak this morning.” A reported five fire engines, two water tankers and one rescue vehicle with 26 firefighters are currently at the scene.
Layne says, “The fire is contained with no injuries being reported.”
The cause of the flareup is yet to be determined.
Tintswalo Atlantic took to social media to reassure the public that no one was harmed during the incident.
“The fire in the main lodge area of Tintswalo Atlantic has been contained and the guest rooms were not affected. All guests and staff were safely evacuated.”
The early-alert fire system had been activated indicating a fire at the main lodge area.
“Staff on duty fought the fire while the emergency services were called. The fire department arrived shortly after,” says Layne.
All guests were relocated to the nearby Hout Bay Manor Hotel.
“The fire department is still onsite and it is not known yet what the extent of the damage to the main lodge is, but guest rooms were not affected.”
The resort is thankful for the support during this time.
“No further details can be confirmed at this time. We appreciate the outpouring of support and will communicate in due course,” says Layne.
Members of the public are advised to steer clear of the area.
“We do request however that people do not attempt to come and witness the damages as this would be unsafe until we have all the information.”
At around 4AM this morning, Tintswalo management received word that the main lodge buildings at Tintswalo Atlantic were on fire. There were no injuries.
