The small surfing community of Scarborough has been left deeply shocked and in mourning following the loss of a 38-year-old local surfer last week.

The male surfer was hijacked while making his way from the beach to his car in Witsand last Wednesday, and it is reported that he was forced into the boot of his car by the attackers.

A suspect was arrested over the weekend by Ocean View Police. Speaking on Cape Talk, another surfer, Frank Solomon, said he has hopes that the new premier will make the province a safer place.

“What do you do and when do you say enough is enough?” Solomon said. “Do we all just sit at home in fear? This is quite a scary time.”

He also added that South Africa has some of the most gorgeous coasts in the world, but they are not being properly protected.

“Guys who go fishing in Macassar have to take guns with them to be protected.”
