Former professional footballer and SuperSport presenter Marc Batchelor has been gunned down near his home, in an apparent hit.

According to police, two men on a motorcycle shot Batchelor with semi automatic guns while still in his car in the Olivedale area, Johannesburg, and drove off.

No arrests have been made.

Batchelor played for Orlando Pirates, Kaizer Chiefs and Moroka Swallows in the Premier Soccer League.

After his soccer career ended Batchelor became a football analyst on SuperSport. 

Police spokesperson Col Lungelo Dlamini said Batchelor was “shot before he could drive into his premises at Olivedale after 6pm”.

“He was shot through the window several times and died at the scene. The motive for the attack is unknown at this stage as nothing was taken.”

In 2007 Batchelor was taken off air by SuperSport after allegations of assault surfaced against him.
