A violent protest that sprung up in Dunoon early this morning led to a MyCiti station being torched, along with several other vehicles.

“Potsdam Road closed from Malibongwe to Killarney. Reports of stone-throwing, people with sticks and stones gathering at Potsdam Taxi Rank,” Richard Coleman, City of Cape Town spokesperson said. “Earlier reports are of staff transport driver attacked at Winning Way.”

According to Coleman, protestors also attempted to set abandoned trucks alight, as the drivers fled to avoid being attacked. A vehicle was also set alight on Koeberg Road, near a police station.

The violent protest led to the N7 being closed in both directions between Plattekloof and Malibongwe roads, with reports of many vehicles being stuck in between.

“South African Police Services and Metro police have responded to the scene,” Coleman said.

The MyCiti bus was set alight on Omarumba Road and Freedom Way.
