Open Studios returns to Cape Town once again, with 17 architecture studios across the city opening their doors to the public on October 23 and 24 2019.

With more studios taking part this year than ever before, this popular event encourages engagement with architecture and the built environment by providing a unique opportunity to see inside some of the most talented architectural studios in Cape Town.

The participating studios will open from 5pm – 8pm, allowing guests to visit after work, university or school, with each studio curating their own event to include their best built work and future projects, and displays including architectural models, drawings, photographs, films and virtual reality.

Open Studios takes place in two designated hubs, CBD and East City/Woodstock, with studios in close proximity grouped together allowing visitors to walk between them and visit several locations in one night.

The atmosphere is both informative and festive as visitors chat to architects, urban designers and interior designers about their work and socialise with other design-savvy guests in these exciting creative workspaces. All ages are welcome, and for younger visitors considering studying architecture this is a great opportunity to get an idea of what life as an architect would be like.

Now in its seventh year, this unique event is not to be missed. Attendance is free, and the full programme with the various locations are available on www.openstudios.co.za

Open Studios is a Cape Institute for Architecture initiative, and forms part of the Open Design Afrika Festival’s city-wide celebration of design from October 23-27. For more details on the ODA Festival Programme visit www.opendesignafrika.org/festival
