Power utility Eskom announced on Sunday that it has implemented load shedding and on Monday morning announced that it will continue until 11pm this evening. Eskom also announced the probability of loadshedding will remain high for the entirety of this week.
It has just been announced that Stage 4 load shedding will be implemented from 10am on Monday morning until 11pm.
We regret that due to additional loss of units at our power stations, Stage 2 loadshedding will move to Stage 4 as from 10:00 to 23:00#Loadshedding@News24 @CityPowerJhb @City_Ekurhuleni @CityTshwane @CityofCT @eThekwiniM @CityofJoburgZA @TrafficSA @ewnupdates @SABCNewsOnline

On Sunday morning at 9am, the embattled public enterprise stipulated that Stage 2 load shedding will be implemented. “Due to the vulnerability and low level of reliability of the system”, Eskom lost additional units on Sunday afternoon and this resulted in unplanned breakdowns increasing to 12 000MW later that evening.
The loss of the additional units required an increase in the use of diesel and water with its open cycle gas turbines (OCGTs), along with pumped storage schemes.
“Regrettably, as a result we have been unable to conserve water and diesel as required to stop or to minimise load shedding for the coming week. At this stage there is a high probability of load shedding until the end of the week. We remind customers that load shedding is a responsible act to prevent a national blackout,” Eskom said in a statement.
