The fire that ravaged many parts of the Overberg region in late 2019 left devastation in its wake. As the area recovers from this disaster, hiking trails are slowly becoming open to the public once again.
Boesmanskloof Hiking Trail in Greyton is officially open to the public again. The announcement was made on the Boesmanskloof Hiking Trail Accommodation-McGregor side Facebook page.
The Overberg fire spread through 4 000 hectares of vegetation and farm land in December, and was allegedly started by two children in an act of “malicious ignition” according to Overberg Municipality executive mayor, Andries Franken. The fire has since been extinguished and the area is in the process of recovery.
This devastating fire is estimated to have cost R50-million.
