Power utility Eskom announced this morning that Stage 2 load shedding will be implemented until 6am Friday, January 10.

“The system remains severely constrained and unpredictable, and as such loadhedding stage 2 will unfortunately have to continue from 8am this morning until 6am tomorrow morning (Friday),” reads Eskom’s statement.

The almost 24-hour load shedding is a result of lost generational capacity.

“We have lost additional generational capacity overnight with breakdowns of over 14 000 MW. Our emergency reserves are also insufficient to meet the demand for electricity during the day.”

Eskom asks all citizens to make a concerted effort to reduce power usage.
