It can be expensive living in the Mother City. Whether its food or simply the sheer unbelievable cost of rent, being a resident here is not exactly super friendly when it comes to the student budget. So if you’re feeling the squeeze on your wallet, fear not because we know a few ways you can save as a student in Cape Town.

A student card goes further than you might expect at these spots around Cape Town:

1. Two Oceans Aquarium 

Cape Town’s most loved establishment of friendly fish also offers a little something for the students out there.

Visit the Two Oceans Aquarium and save a few coins on your entrance fee thanks to their offer that allows those with a student card to enter for just R140 as opposed to the usual R185.

2. Kirstenbosch Gardens

Connect with nature at one of Cape Town’s most famous national spaces for let with your student card.

University students pay a cool R40 for entry as opposed to the usually R75 but pupils between the ages of six and 17 pay just R20.

3. The Baxter Theatre

If you’re in the mood to watch a show, head over to The Baxter Theatre where your student status counts the most.

Be sure to check up what your savings will be as this establishment offers students a 10% off social on certain ticket purchases but you’ll need to call to confirm on your specific show.

4. Iziko Museums

Pay half price when you visit any Iziko Museum with your student card.

Take a peek into the past at one of these fine history establishments and instead of the usual R30 you’ll get through the doors for a mere R15.

5. The Labia Theatre

Visit Cape Town’s favourite classic movie theatre for less with your student card on hand.

The Labia offers students a R10 discount on the usually R60 cost of a ticket and features a wide variety of blockbusters and unique independent films that are a feast for the senses.

6. Table Mountain Aerial Cableway 

See the view from the top of one of the Seven Wonders of the World and have some change to spare.

Your student card will buy you a trip up Table Mountain for just R130 on Fridays or one way for just R68, which is a 40% discount.

Online ticket purchases don’t qualify for this discount so be sure to buy at the ticket office.

7. YoYoga

Save an epic R125 on a three-month package when you sign up as a student at YoYoga.

Usually, three months costs R625 but you’ll get it for R500. Ten classes cost students R900 compared to the R1100 for non-students and 20 classes will cost you just R1600 while those who have graduated will pay R2000.

YoYoga has a number of locations to suit locals but if none are in your area a number of yoga studios across the Cape offer students specials so worry not.
