Old Mutual has today [March 13] confirmed that one of its employees has tested positive for Covid-19 after returning from an overseas holiday.
The company would not confirm which office the employee works at, but did confirm that he has not been in contact with any other Old Mutual customers or employees.
“We are following a robust and comprehensive Covid-19 Response Plan that is updated regularly as we monitor the latest developments. Our plan includes contingency measures to limit direct exposure to the virus and to ensure that we continue to operate smoothly,” said Old Mutual’s Acting Chief Operating Officer Heloise van der Mescht.
The employee did not return to the Old Mutual office after his holiday but rather observed the company’s mandatory 21-day self-quarantine period and sought medical advice.
“Old Mutual followed the protocols prescribed by the SA Government and they tracked all the individuals who met with the Old Mutual employee outside of the workplace to arrange their self-quarantine. The employee is currently undergoing the necessary medical treatment,” it said in a statement.
“At the same time, we continue to educate our employees on both the risks of the global pandemic and the safety measures they need to take to help us promote a safe workplace and environment,” said Van Der Mescht.
The Department of Health has also confirmed that the number of positive coronavirus cases in the country has risen to 24. Two of these are in the Western Cape, a 50-year-old male who had travelled to Switzerland and Austria and a 46-year-old male who had travelled to Italy.
