The South African government has confirmed that there are now 1 170 positive cases in the country.
This comes after the first confirmed death, which happened in the Western Cape. The second reported death is still being investigated as to whether it is officially a coronavirus death, according to Minister in the Presidency Jackson Mthembu.
Today marked the first day of lockdown for the country, in order to stop the spread of the virus. This as the number of cases cross the critical 1 000 persons mark.
South Africans are being encouraged to take the lockdown seriously, as it aims to slow the number of positive cases growth and ultimately “flatten the curve.” On the first day of the lockdown, certain stumbling blocks were seen with regards to long queues outside grocery stores and taxis filling beyond the required capacity.
