On Saturday [18 April] the number of South Africa’s coronavirus cases has jumped from 2783 to 3034. The increase of 251 cases makes it the highest single day increase South Africa has experienced since the first case was confirmed in March.
Minister Zweli Mkhize confirmed that the total number of tests conducted across the country is 108,021. Yesterday another two confirmed fatalities brought the country’s death toll to 50. This is also the most number of deaths recorded in a single day for South Africa.
In the Western Cape there has been 15 recorded deaths, the second highest rate in the country after KwaZulu-Natal with 20.
The Western Cape has also had the second highest number of recoveries, 205, after Gauteng with 479.
