While inter-provincial leisure travel has been banned under South Africa’s lockdown Level 3, one audacious cat decided to go for a trip anyway.

On June 24, a pretty female tabby hitched a ride aboard a car carrier traveling from Port Elizabeth to Cape Town, without the driver’s knowledge.

The cat boarded the vehicle and travelled the long distance to Cape Town. She was only discovered once the vehicle arrived in the Mother City.

Now, some two weeks later, the team at Tavcor Volkswagen is still trying to find her family and bring her back home.

The dealership made an appeal on their Facebook page asking the community to help them find her owners.

“This beautiful female Tabbie found herself on an unexpected ride on our car carrier which left Port Elizabeth for Cape Town last Saturday. She is missing her family and we want to reunite her with them,” they said in a Facebook post.

Locals are being asked to contact TEARS in Cape Town at 021 785 4482 if they know this kitty’s family or anyone who could help her get back home.
