Working on Fire (WOF) in the Western Cape was called to action on Monday [November 2]. The Hottentot’s Holland team, which is based in Grabouw, was dispatched to help the Overberg District Municipality to suppress a fire.
The municipality and the WOF team worked together to successfully contain and extinguish the fire, which broke out at Shaw’s Pass between Caledon and Hermanus.
WOF said that all 27 teams located in the Western Cape were on high alert, as the Fire Danger Index is high.

Meanwhile, many people are now homeless after several informal structures were destroyed by a fire that gutted Du Noon on Monday night [November 2].
The City of Cape Town’s Fire & Rescue Service reports that they were notified about burning structures in Dumani Street at 9.20pm. The fire crews received a police escort to the scene.
“We had 11 firefighting appliances and 45 staff members on scene. Firefighters managed to contain and extinguish the fire just after 00.07pm and no injuries were reported,” said the service.
