Pinnacle Point in Mossel Bay has been named Africa’s best golf course for 2020 by the World Golf Awards.

The annual World Golf Awards forms part of the World Travel Awards, and is a global initiative that serves to celebrate and reward excellence in golf tourism, world-class courses and golf destinations.

Voting ran from February 23 to September 1 this year and was made up of professionals working within the golf travel and tourism industry like senior executives, tour operators, agents and media professionals from 129 countries. The public could also cast votes online via the World Golf Awards website.

Pinnacle Point earned the top spot as the best golf course in Africa, beating other nominees like Assoufid Golf Course in Morocco, El Kantaoui Golf-Panarama Course in Tunisia, Karen Country Club in Kenya and The Allegria Golf Club in Egypt.

“Overlooking the Indian Ocean near Mossel Bay and designed by Peter Matkovich and 2011 Open Champion, Darren Clarke, Pinnacle Point is one of the most unique and scenic golf courses in the world,” explains World Golf Awards.

“Golfers have access to a number of world-class facilities, including a golf academy, driving range, putting green, club-fitting and repairs workshop, and excellent pro shop, not to mention a clubhouse with 270-degree sea views. The 18-hole links-style course is also home to the Louis Oosthuizen Junior Golf Academy.

“Local and international visitors can enjoy a number of recently renovated on-site features, including a children’s entertainment centre, professionally-managed wellness centre, restaurant and bar, conference and function venue, golden beaches and the historically important Pinnacle Point Caves. Pinnacle Point is not just an estate, but a lifestyle destination.”

Fancourt Hotel & Country Club in George was also named Africa’s Best Golf Hotel for 2020 by the World Golf Awards.
