Two excavators, at the construction site of the new R85-million Retreat pump station in Seawinds, were vandalised and petrol-bombed on Thursday, November 12. This is the second such incident in the area at the very same site. One of the security guards on site was also injured and had to be taken to hospital after trying to protect the equipment. The City has come out strongly in response to the incident and warned that this behaviour will not be tolerated.

“The City condemns the vandalism of two excavators in Seawinds, Lavender Hill,” said Xanthea Limberg, the City’s Mayc0 Member for Water and Waste. “One excavator was damaged beyond repair by a petrol bomb. This is the second incident of this nature at the site.”

“Our priority as a caring City is to deliver much-needed services to our residents. The destruction of assets on the site of a major infrastructural investment project is immensely frustrating. We cannot condone activities that deny services to other residents,” she added. “We want to assure our residents that we have been and will continue to make every effort to ensure that we continue to deliver services as far as possible while prioritising the safety of our staff and the public we serve.”
