Blessing Bveni, the ‘Table Mountain Killer’, was found guilty of two murders in the Cape Town High Court on Thursday, December 3.

In total, Bveni (33) was found guilty on 10 charges which included murder, attempted murder, assault, robbery and contravention of the immigration act.

In her judgement, Judge Judith Cloete said she doubted his version as it could not “reasonably be true”.

“Indeed it is so improbable that it must be rejected as false beyond a reasonable doubt.”

After the guilty verdict, the Zimbabwean national was led to the holding cells while family members of his alleged victims looked on.

Bveni maintains his innocence and accused witnesses of lying.

Bveni allegedly stabbed Doug Notten to death in February 2018. Notten and his wife Julia were walking on a mountain path near Fish Hoek when they were attacked. Fortunately, Julia escaped unharmed.

In March 2018, cyclist Ian McPhersonvwas attacked and also fatally stabbed near the spot where Notten was killed. McPherson’s mountain bike was also stolen.

When police tracked down McPherson’s stolen goods, which were found with vendors in Masiphumelele, they said that they purchased the items from Bveni.

He was arrested a few days later at his home in Phillippi.

According to Bveni’s account of events, his job is to buy and resell items – and he had purchased McPherson’s items from a friend named Thulani, who lived in an informal settlement near Fish Hoek.

Bveni will remain in custody until he is sentenced.
