The City of Cape Town has reached an out-of-court settlement with Police Minister Bheki Cele that prohibits police interference with filming operations for crews that have obtained permits.
While conducting an inspection of Camps Bay Beach on Wednesday, Cele interrupted a film crew and said that their operations were a “slight in the face of the regulations” announced by President Cyril Ramaphosa.
“There are no extra activities on the beach, except beachgoers doing their things,” said Cele.
The City of Cape Town then went to court against Cele as the party insisted the crew had permission and the relevant permits to allow them to film there.
JP Smith, the City of Cape Town’s Mayco Member for Safety Security welcomed the City’s victory after the settlement was reached on December 18. “The city has prevailed against minister Cele,” Smith said according to TimesLive.
“The out-of-court settlement prohibits the police from interfering with film shoots when the city has issued a permit.”
