A veteran firefighter stationed in Gansbaai has died of COVID-19-related symptoms on Friday, December 18.
Zolile Elex Bosi (54) is the first official from the Overstrand Municipality to succumb to COVID-19.
In 1987, Bosi began his firefighting career at Bisho Airport in the Eastern Cape and also worked for the East London Fire Department.
He joined Overstrand Fire & Rescue in 2011 as a reservist and was appointed to a permanent position in December 2014. Bosi was a mentor to his younger colleagues and will be missed, said Fire Chief Lester Smith.
“Overstrand Municipality offers sincerest condolences to the family and colleagues of firefighter Bosi,” said the Municipality.
“Please residents of the Overstrand, may this be a directive once more that we should at all times remain aware and alert to observe safe practices at all times.”
