President Cyril Ramaphosa will address the nation at 8pm on Monday evening [January 11] on developments in relation to the country’s response to the Coronavirus pandemic, the Presidency has confirmed.
The address follows a meeting on Wednesday, January 6 and Sunday, January 10 of the National Coronavirus Command Council (NCCC).
The address will be broadcast and streamed on a range of platforms that are accessible to South Africans and international audiences.

The last time the President addressed the nation on December 28, 2020, he announced a return to Level 3 lockdown, as well as a new 9am-6am curfew and another booze ban.
Since then, the national COVID-19-related death toll has breached 30 000. There has been a cumulative total of 1 231 597 COVID-19 cases identified.
Total deaths currently stand at 33 163 and recoveries are at 966 368, representing a recovery rate of 78,4%.
