Adjusted lockdown level 3 regulations have been published by the Minister of Cooperative Governance and Corporate Affairs Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma, and have been put into immediate effect.

The regulations primarily deal with travel in and out of the country, stipulating that 20 land borders that were partially closed will now be fully operational. However, there are 33 other borders that will remain closed.

While travelling over South Africa’s open land border is now allowed, it is subject to specific restrictions. Those who commute daily from neighbouring countries for the purposes of schooling and teaching are required to adhere to strict COVID-19 protocols, including:

– The wearing of face masks

– COVID-19 screening and quarantine if necessary

– Regularly sanitizing and adherence to strict social distancing rules

International travel is still restricted to Cape Town International Airport, King Shaka International Airport and OR Tambo International Airport.

Long-haul flights (departure and landing) are only permitted during curfew hours, and international travelers must provide a valid certificate showing their negative COVID-19 test results as recognised by the World Health Organization (WHO). In the event of the traveller’s failure to submit a certificate as proof of a negative COVID-19 test, the traveller will be required to do an antigen test on arrival at his or her own cost.
