South Africa is grappling with fluctuations in COVID-19 infections. Health Minister Zweli Mkhize reported 1447 new cases in the country on Wednesday, March 3 which indicates an increase after numbers were lower than 1000 the previous two days.

In the Western Cape, the number of active infections shows a decline. On Tuesday, the number of active cases in the province stood at 3482 and on Wednesday, Premier Alan Winde reported the number of active cases was down to 3390.

The current statistics on COVID-19 cases in the Western Cape is as follows:

Total confirmed COVID-19 cases 275 700

Total recoveries 261 088

Vaccines administered 14 196

Total deaths 11 222

Total active cases (currently infected patients) 3390

Tests conducted 1343097

Hospitalisations 1153 with 264 in ICU or high-care
