This afternoon, March 16, the Animal Welfare Society of South Africa released a wonderful statement on Facebook announcing that Lady Rosmead has finally been captured after weeks on the run.

The homeless pooch captured the hearts and minds of Capetonians, who have been eagerly awaiting her safe capture. Well, today is a good day Mother City, because she is finally in good hands!

Lady Rosemead was caught in Ottery yesterday afternoon, thanks to a dedicated group of volunteers from the Southern Suburbs, said the Animal Welfare Society.

The volunteers have been following her every move to ensure that she came to no harm whilst plans were put in place to go ahead with her rescue.

“Lady Rosemead’s journey, that lasted around one month, saw her visiting Claremont, Kenilworth, Wynberg and Ottery, where after setting a humane trap baited with a few pieces of Finger-Licking Good KFC chicken that “she went mad for”, our team were able to tempt her into the trap and take her to safety,” said the Animal Welfare Society.

The society extended a sincere thanks to everyone who worked tirelessly to help Lady Rosmead, as well as TEARS for providing a safe and humane trap.

“Lady Rosemead (or Rose for short) has been examined by our veterinarian, who found her to be infested with ticks and fleas and suffering from the tick-borne disease, Ehrlichiosis. She is receiving appropriate treatment, loads of love and we are 100% confident that she will go on to make a full recovery,” continued the society on Facebook.

As soon as she is well enough, Rose will be spayed, vaccinated and microchipped before being transferred to the Animal Care Centre, where she will remain safely util she finds her forever family.

“Until we are able to adjust her diet to exclude her firm favourite, Kentucky Fried Chicken, we are hopeful that KFC will be willing to contribute towards her recovery,” concluded the Animal Welfare Society.
