At least 25 people have been killed in the Western Cape taxi violence since January this year, a report says.
The killing of the Cape Amalgamated Taxi Association (CATA) president, Victor Wiwi, on Wednesday last week was the latest murder case registered.
EWN reported at the time that one other person was also gunned down, while a third person survived the shooting.
The incident left Western Cape Transport MEC, Bonginkosi Madikizela in shock, as it happened just two hours after he had spoken to Wiwi.
News24 reported on Monday that a team of dedicated investigators had since been assigned to deal with the growing violent crime in the province.
“The current spate of violence and killing jeopardises the agreements between my department and the taxi industry leadership structure,” the report quoted Madikizela as saying.
Madikizela said the hitmen and paymasters responsible for the killings must be identified and be brought to the book.
