Police in the province have once again come under fire for their involvement in attempting to allegedly hijack a Western Cape Health Department Director. As reported by SABC, Ndoda Mavela and two friends were in his car, escorting a woman acquaintance back home to Gugulethu in her own vehicle.

According to Mavela after the woman parked and locked up, a minibus taxi stopped in front of them, with one of the occupants shouting and allegedly shooting at them. The trio were then able to get away and proceeded to allegedly call the police, but ended up being the ones arrested in the end after their ‘assailants’ were also found to be police members.

Mavela and his friends apparently spent the night in jail, but their charges of attempted murder were dropped, after their woman acquaintance made a statement at the police station, corroborating their version of events. Meanwhile, police spokesperson, Noloyiso Rwexana has confirmed that the case has been opened and is under investigation with no arrests made yet.

This is a developing story.
