Premier Alan Winde took to Twitter to announce Mr Bonginkosi Madikizela resignation from the Western Cape Cabinet, which he accepted. Winde went on to say that he believes it was the “right and honourable thing to do.”

The news follows Winde’s suspension of the Public Works and Transport MEC with “immediate effect” after he lied about having a Bachelor of Commerce Degree in Human Resources on his CV.

Madikizela admitted that he did study, but did not complete his degree.

“Mr Madikizela has worked hard in both the Human Settlements and Transport & Public Works portfolios, and I wish to thank him for the valuable contribution he has made to delivering progress in our province over the years.

“Mr Tertuis Simmers will continue to act as Minister of Transport and Public Works, in advance of a further statement I will make on my Cabinet composition shortly. I will continue to work hard to lead a government in which all the residents of this province can trust,” Tweeted Winde.
