The multi-award winning broadway musical is soon to be gracing the stages of Cape Town.
West Side Story was first introduced to Broadway in 1957. Originally incepted by writer Arthur Laurents, the production was adapted to suit the stage life by the acclaimed Jerome Robbins. Today, it is inarguably one of the most loved musicals of all time.
Dubbed a modern retelling of the Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet, the production tells the story of a forbidden romance between star-crossed lovers.
Set in the upper west side of New York City, we are introduced to two rival gangs, the Sharks and the Jets, whose differences with one another run deep. Tony, a former member of the Jets and best friend to the gang’s leader, falls in love with Maria whose brother is a headstrong Shark’s member.
This rendition of West Side Story is the brainchild of the creative team who brought you the smash hits The Rocky Horror Show and Cabaret, and is directed by the renowned Matthew Wild – a multiple Fleur de Cap winner.
The multi-award winner Jonathan Roxmouth plays the role of Tony and is joined on stage by the lovely Lynelle Kennard – a multi-talented soprano singer who makes the role of Maria her own.
Come on over for a night of the singalong musical hits ‘The Jet Song’, ‘Maria’, ‘America’, ‘I Feel Pretty’, and more.
