Fears are mounting over the wellbeing of a missing Cape Town mom, Andiswa Qhina, 32, after her family received ransom texts, two days after she disappeared.
According to IOL, Qhina, a Tygerberg hospital cleaner, was last seen on Monday (May 3) morning heading to work from her home in Samora Machel.
The report said that the alleged kidnappers sent multiple videos of her naked, seemingly drugged and seemingly unconscious to her family.
They demanded a R60 000 ransom in exchange for her release.
In 2018, a 65-year-old Cape Town businessman was reunited with his family after being held in captivity for more than two months.
News24 reported at the time that this was after his alleged captors had demanded 50 bitcoin, which had a valuation of R4.3 million, for his release.
According to the statistics provided by authorities, the businessman’s kidnapping followed 14 similar cases that had been recorded since 2015.
Businesstech reported last year that the number of kidnapping cases in South Africa had climbed exponentially, with gangs earning more than R1 billion in 2019.
