The Western Cape recorded 0 additional deaths since Tuesday, May 4, keeping the total number of COVID-19 related deaths in the province at 11 630, Premier Alan Winde says.
Winde said the province had 1 972 active COVID-19 infections, with a total of 284 634 people having been infected as of May 5. At least 270 899 recoveries were recorded.
“A total of 63 188 vaccines received to date as part of the Sisonke trial have been administered by 5pm on 4 May 2021,” said Winde.

Meanwhile, South Africa had 2 073 new COVID-19 infections by Wednesday, May 5, and 46 more COVID-19 related deaths, taking the death to 54 557.

Health minister Zweli Mkhize said in a statement that the country recorded a total of 1 588 221 COVID-19 cases by Wednesday.
