Alleged crime underworld figure Nafiz Modack has been formally charged on Friday, May 14 for allegedly ordering the assassination of Anti-Gang Unit detective Charl Kinnear. Modack appeared at the Blue Downs Regional Court on Friday morning alongside four co-accused, among them a member of the police’s Anti-Gang Unit. Kinnear was gunned down in front of his home shortly after 3 pm on Friday, September 18 2020.
Modack now joins Zane Kilian as the accused charged in connection with the top cop’s murder. They are allegedly listed as accused one and two. Meanwhile, Modack and Ricardo Morgan also face charges for their supposed role in the attempted hit on defence attorney William Booth, EWN reports.

Kinnear’s wife, Nicolette Kinnear, and her two sons were also present at the courthouse, with a heavy police presence visible.

Modacks’s loyal supporters have also been visible since he was arrested on Thursday, April 29. People came out in their numbers to show their support for the controversial businessman.

Meanwhile, acting National Head of the Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation, Lieutenant General Tebello Mosikili lauded the team for not leaving any stone unturned on the ongoing investigation. “We sincerely hope that the family will find comfort on the additional arrest as this brings us a step nearer to a closure,” Mosikili said. The men will allegedly remain at separate prisons until their next court appearance on Monday, May 17.
