One of South Africa’s oldest gardens, this oasis is situated in the heart of the city and was first built as a refreshment station to replenish ships that rounded the Cape. Now you have a chance to spend the day soaking up the sun while eating delicious sandwiches, all while exploring the history behind this breathtaking garden. Along with amazing views of Table Mountain, you can also purchase a bag of nuts and feed the adorable furry critters that call this garden home.
Get a unique perspective with a free walking tour
Is there any better way to get to know a city than by walking its streets? Spend the day learning about Cape Town’s incredible history and landmarks by taking a free walking tour with Cape Town Free Walking Tours. There are various options to choose from, including their historic tour, Apartheid to Freedom tour and Bo-Kaap tour. Each one offers a unique and beautiful perspective of our city that shouldn’t be missed. While these tours are free, they do recommend that you tip your tour guide. The tour begins at the Motherland Coffee Company and takes place daily between 11am to 2pm. Keep an eye out for individuals carrying green umbrellas.
Explore Cape Town’s famous market scene
There’s nothing that Capetonians love more than exploring a good farmer’s market. Thankfully, there are plenty to choose from in and around Cape Town. Take an easy drive along the coast and spend the day meandering through the aisles of the Hermanus Country Market. Spend the afternoon soaking up some sun, going for a run, or watching the kids enjoy this amazing space.
Get your heart racing with a hike
Cape Town is famous for its natural beauty and offers incredible hiking trails for the avid outdoorsman; or anyone looking to chase sunsets and get their heart pumping. While Lion’s Head and Table Mountain provide some excellent trails and views, take the trail less travelled by exploring spots such as Helderberg Nature Reserve or Paarl Rock for a different perspective of the Mother City.
A Moonlight Meander
There’s nothing more spectacular than looking up at the night sky and gazing at the rising full moon, and the Muizenberg Moonlight Meander has become somewhat of a tradition for moon-watchers. The event happens on the Saturday closest to the full moon at 6pm and allows you to enjoy a leisurely stroll along the beach with your fellow moon-watching enthusiasts. The walk starts opposite Knead bakery.
