#HighburyHearsYou – At Cape Town Etc, we are passionate about getting local restaurants back and booming in business. As part of our #HighburyHearsYou initiative, we’re dishing out the deets on some incredible restaurants in and around town.

Boiled and baked to perfection. Bagels have almost reached cult status in Cape Town, with the top spot reserved for coffee (Capetonians love their coffee). If you’re looking for the best places to enjoy your mid-afternoon bagel, here are a few delectable places around Cape Town.

Everyone and their mother knows about this Cape Town landmark. If you’re looking to sample some heavenly goodness, Kleinskys offers a range of incredible bagels that will not leave you (or your mother) disappointed. Their smoked salmon seems to be a favourite, but give their breakfast bagel a try too! Their bagels aren’t the only things that will leave you hearing the sweet tunes of angelic music, but they offer a comprehensive menu that includes sandwiches and salads.

New York Bagel

Located in the heart of the city, Capetonians seem to flock to this bustling little cafe – and with good reason. They offer a mouth-watering selection of handmade bagels with all types of fillings, including cream cheese, roast beef, and chicken schnitzel. They provide a range of Jewish deli delights, such as babkas, kitkes, and chopped herring. Whether it’s a breakfast or lunchtime treat, you don’t have to end there. If you’re craving something a little sweeter, they claim to have one of the best cheesecakes in Cape Town.

A slice of bagel heaven all the way in Kalk Bay, Bob’s Bagel Cafe is an intuition within this seaside community. Patrons travel near and far to dig into Bob’s sweet-tasting bagels, slathered with toppings of your choosing, be adventurous and try their Mauritian chilli paste or stick to the classics with some cream cheese. They also offer an incredible homey atmosphere, which will leave you sitting and enjoying the space for hours.

There’s nothing quite like spending the morning strolling the cobble-stoned walkways of the V&A Waterfront while breathing in the salty smells of the ocean. The one thing that may make it even more magical? Bagels! Cooked is a Middle Eastern restaurant situated at the Watershed, serving delicious Middle Eastern cuisine and bagels. Take a bite into their egg and smoked salmon or their Triple B – you will not be disappointed.

Max Bagels

A bacon, avo and cream cheese bagel? Sign us up! The reviews are in, and it seems that Max Bagels may be the best in town. Well, that’s according to hungry Capetonians. Located on Bree Street, this quaint spot offers a laidback atmosphere that goes pretty well with their speciality coffee. They have an extensive menu too that includes a few vegetarian options, which is great for bagel-lovers of all kinds!
