Social media has been left confused regarding the health status of former apartheid president, FW De Klerk. This comes after reports emerged on Tuesday, June 8, that he has been hospitalised.

De Klerk announced earlier this year that he suffers from mesothelioma, which describes cancer that affects the lining of the lungs.

The FW de Klerk Foundation confirmed that there has been no discernible deterioration in his health since he was diagnosed with mesothelioma, as he has been receiving immunotherapy for the past two months.

However, the Foundation has now dismissed claims that the former head of state is rapidly deteriorating, and confirmed that he has not been admitted to hospital.

According to a statement released by the Foundation on Tuesday, De Klerk attended a meeting of the Foundation on Monday, June 7.

“Mr De Klerk attended a meeting of the FW de Klerk Foundation Board yesterday and comes into his office three or four times a week,” the statement read.
