Put on your hiking boots and join Cape Camino on a two-day hike through the Swartland in aid of StreetSmart SA from Friday, 16 to Sunday, 18 July.
“We are delighted to partner with Cape Camino on this personal pilgrimage in aid of helping our most vulnerable children living on the streets,” says Zaid Adams, chairman of StreetSmart SA, an organisation helping street children rebuild their lives through public donations throughout the Western Cape and Gauteng.
You don’t need to be super fit to embark on this 2-day excursion. Hikers can either cover 20km per day on foot or opt for 10 km per day with lifts available for the rest of the way.
The weekend starts with a sleep over at Riebeek Kasteel on Friday to savour some of the local fare before hitting the trail to Gouda through wheat fields and farmlands on Saturday morning. Breakfast will be provided en route and prepared by a local farmer. The Smuts family, your overnight hosts in Gouda, will welcome you with their warm hospitality and a home cooked meal.
On Sunday the second day’s hike to Tulbagh starts after breakfast. Hikers who can’t manage the 20km stretch to Tulbagh can opt for a tractor and trailer ride at the 10 km mark. This StreetSmart fundraiser will culminate with lunch at Tulbagh’s popular Paddagang restaurant.
The price of R3 850 per person sharing for the 2-day hike, includes chaperones, a contribution to StreetSmart SA, 2 nights shared accommodation, breakfasts, meals, luggage transfers, a Camino passport and a T-shirt. Lifts during the hike for people not walking the full distance, snacks and return transport from Tulbagh are excluded.
