You’re cruising to Muizenberg for some time with the lads. You crank up some Post Malone for the Muze drive, and slyly put on your shades designed from Mr. Post himself. Life is good.

Or, maybe it’s time for a much needed catch-up lunch with your closest on the coolest street in Cape Town. Everything is so aesthetic, so you know you’re taking pictures. You whip out your gorgeous Millie Bobby Brown’s for the polaroids, and the combination of the snaps and the shades makes you look like you just stepped out of a 1960s film. Life is good.

Shades are one of the most important elements of any fit. It’s beyond the look. It’s all about the attitude they fuel you with. You can’t see the haters, the haters can’t see your eye-rolling at their negativity, and if you’re like me you might not be able to see properly at all thanks to the once-in-a-lifetime gift of poor-eyesight. The point is, whatever your reasoning, rocking some serious shades most of the time, usually makes things just a little better, from mood to fit.

So what are we copping this season?

International fashion houses especially dropped some of their finest ranges in Cape Town recently, and the aesthetic has something for everyone. From the retro-seeker to the futuristic fashionista.

Here’s what Luxoticca’s finest served up in the Mother City.

Burberry

The Burberry Poppy BE with the silly chains attached, were a personal favourite. The blossoming red isn’t a colour, it’s a flavour of expression.

But then there were the Burberry Vintage Check square-frames that also painted a special Burberry checked splash across my heart. Brown, Classic London chique but also perfect for a lunch in Clifton.

The Burberry line had a lot of other stunner sunnies, and the range radiated everything from a classic look to the dopest pop of shade for any street style look. The Thomas Burberry monogram is ever prominent for fashion’s finest.

Miu Miu

Miu Miu’s displays had me ready to whip out a piano and call myself Elton John. Bright, bold and unapologetically brilliant.

The pink, brilliant sparkles of Miu Miu 09XS will have you captivated as a diva. I would personally wear these absolutely anywhere, though I’d be lying if I said they wouldn’t be perfectly suited beyond the beach. A night at groove in town could definitely see me in these, and to capture the all pink energy, I’d say that popping in to I Love the Dough for a cocktail or two in these would definitely be an obligation.

The Miu Miu La Mondaine collection particularly has an enchanting feel, and when festivals are allowed again, these will definitely be a go-to.

Vogue

Vogue and Millie Bobby Brown’s latest collection will have you wearing your travels. Many of the shades were inspired by Millie’s trips across the Globe, from Spain to London.

Personally, I adored the vintage flare of many of the glasses. A thrift market on Bree Street could definitely be even more gorgeous when seen through these lenses.

Oakley

Oakley served up their Kato collection, and to wear these would be unlocking 2010 Kanye. No city in South Africa is quite as bold as the Mother City, so seeing the Kato’s anywhere in Cape Town would be a thrill.

Post Malone and Arnette teamed up to drop some of my favourite sunglasses of the season. Did I try on the Gringo black and yellow sunglasses and sing Congratulations in my head? Absolutely.

They’re international, and high fashion brands, but I personally think that nothing would better on them than some Capetonian flare.
