If the thought of rock music juxtaposed against a futuristic plot line with outstanding lighting and technology tickles your fancy, then get yourself a ticket to Rockville 2069.

Set at the 100th anniversary of Woodstock, Rockville 2069 makes its world première with the Cape Town Philharmonic Orchestra at Artscape Opera House this week. Featuring a cast of 26 with lead singer Joseph Clark (of Queen at the Opera) and a seven-piece rock band, artists and musicians from different cultural and musical backgrounds combine to bring a new, sometimes discordant, always thrilling voice to the stage. Expect fast moving scene changes, 3D animation and a 100m2 LED screen – proving that when old school meets new school, you’re in for a spellbinding production.

The plot tells of an Earth destroyed by man’s neglect and climate change. Billions of people die and the planet is reduced to a frozen wasteland covered in toxic fog – except for one corner of the Earth that is renamed Rockville by its rock music-loving inhabitants. The survivors begin to make a simple life for themselves, living by the values that had brought them together to celebrate Woodstock, realising the importannce that music plays in their survival.

Embark on a musical time warp that will have you humming and tapping your toes long after the curtains draw shut.
