The Synergy Live Music Festival is a three-day party featuring top international and homegrown talent with a diverse selection of beats.

It blows my mind that so many different styles of music can fit into one festival, but somehow Synergy Live makes it happen beautifully. You won’t get bored as you flit between multiple stages, each showcasing a variety of musical styles including rock, indie rock, trance, progressive psytrance, electronica, drum ‘n bass, house, deep house, techno and everything in between.

When you’re tired of dancing, you can kick back at the comedy stage or check out the goods and food market.

Some of the acts I’m really looking forward to:

Black Cat Bones
 Main Stage Friday 8 pm
This blues-rock band formed in Pretoria in 2007 and their excellent live performance earned them the MK Award for Best Live Act in 2013.

Al Bairre
– Main Stage Saturday 6 pm
Al Bairre, pronounced [Al Bear] is a five-piece band from Cape Town that formed in 2012. They combine cello, violins, guitars, ukuleles and drums to achieve their symphonic indie rock sound. They won the MK Best Newcomer award in 2014.

Sibot
– Main Stage Friday 10 pm
Simon Ringrose is the man behind Sibot, a prolific South African electronic music producer. He started his career in 1998 with SA hip-hop group, Max Normal (of which the lead singer is now part of Die Antwoord) and has been involved with multiple electronic acts over the years. Sibot was crowned South African DJ Battle Champion in 2002.

His style, blurring the lines between hip-hop and electronic music, has lent itself to both advertising and the party scene. Sibot has performed live all over SA and has been invited to multiple international festivals and gigs.

Crystal Castles (Canada)
– Main Stage Saturday 10:30 pm
This award-winning experimental electronic band formed in Canada in 2003. No doubt, Ethan Kath has made an excellent choice appointing the new singer, Edith, after the original Alice Glass left for personal reasons in 2014.

For old times sake, this is Crystal Castles’ first studio album, which perfectly highlights the ‘warped two-dimensional Gameboy glitches’ that they are known for.
