The 21st annual World Travel Awards, which recognise excellence in the global travel and tourism industry, were announced in Quito, Ecuador this week. As far as the judging panel was concerned, Cape Town is sitting pretty.
The city scooped the title of Africa’s leading travel destination and its best cruise port. Unsurprisingly, Table Mountain is the continent’s top tourist attraction.
Next up on the list are Durban, El Gouna (on the Red Sea) and Johannesburg. Durban also scooped the prize for Africa’s top conferencing destination, so well done to our fellow SA cities!
‘We are grateful to all of the tourism operators who have been recognised for their hard work, impeccable standards and commitment to their customers,’ said Cape Town Tourism CEO Enver Duminy about the award.
Cape Town International narrowly missed out on the best airport title, coming second to OR Tambo, but congrats must go to The Twelve Apostles Hotel & Spa near Camps Bay, voted the country’s leading spa resort.
