It would be an understatement to say the Sea Point promenade is popular with locals. Come spring, this seaside, grass-lined walkway is packed with people enjoying the sunshine, sea breeze and views so pretty you can’t help but think the city is showing off in some way. A stroll or jog along the prom is pure enjoyment, but don’t miss these activities either.
Rent a bicycle
Fifty bucks gets you an hour with one of Up Cycle‘s cruisers from Holland, so you can wheel your way along the coast in the sunshine. Various sizes are available, including kiddie bikes. Find the rental stand near the Pavilion public swimming pool (currently closed for maintenance).
View the art
The promenade has become ground zero for innovative sculpture and installation, thanks to public art collective Art54. Keep an eye out for White Horses, Rhinosaur and the new Heritage Day installation Kom Oor Die See by Haroon Gunn-Salie, going up on September 24th.
Hit the outdoor gym
Work, work, work, work, working on your … fitness? This functional outdoor area on the Three Anchor Bay side is the perfect place to double up on your fresh air and rays while popping a pull-up or 20.
… or the jungle gym
If the little legs get tired, give them a break with a spin on one of the roundabouts and swing sets dotted along the prom. With kids in tow you can also head to the Mini Blue Train playground or the Green Point Urban Park in the vicinity.
Munch on this
The only thing missing from this picture so far, is a towering ice cream cone in your hand. A number of stalls on the Pavilion side offer gelato, chip ‘n’ dip, boerie rolls and toasties to keep the hunger pangs at bay.
Insider tip! If you’re going for an early morning stroll, the Vida e Caffe in the Shell Garage on the corner of Beach Road is the earliest opening spot to pick up a cuppa in the area.
