I started drinking whisky for the same reason I started wearing aviators, leather jackets and red lipstick; to look cool. I associated whisky with wealth, power and success; everything I aspire to be. Sitting in a trendy bar, nursing a double on the rocks makes me feel confident like I am one step closer to being that epic, successful person. As a result, I have grown to love the spirit and want to learn more about it.
Thankfully platforms like Whisky Live exist to help build my knowledge and transition from looking cool to actually being cool. They are dedicated to the promotion and education of whisky, and host a variety of whisky tastings that everyone from newbies to connoisseurs can enjoy. This weekend Whisky Live is coming to Cape Town where you will be able to taste some of the greatest whiskies in the world, including some rare, sought-after brands.
You can also engage with producers, distillers and marketers to find out more about the industry and the drink. Single malt Scotch to Blends, Bourbon to Irish – no matter your preference, you will find it at Whisky Live. If you are not sure what your preference is, you can find out the best way possible, by tasting! Passionate experts will be on hand, providing information on what makes their brands taste the way they do. To see what brands are exhibiting at the event, click here.
If you want to stock up on your collection or buy a bottle for someone who could not make it to the event, Norman Goodfellows will be offering a fabulous range of excellent deals. If you are one of the early shoppers, you will be rewarded with some amazing gifts. You can get glasses, ice buckets or laptop bags, but only if you buy between 6 pm and 7 pm. Even if you don’t, you will still get some pretty sweet deals.
The greatest thing to happen at Whisky Live (for me at least) is combining two of the best things this planet has to offer – chocolate and whisky! Not just any chocolate and whisky, Glenlivet and Lindt! If this does not entice you to come, nothing will. Before the event starts, you can line your stomach with delectable treats courtesy of Mon Ami French Afrik Bistro. You can sit down and enjoy a light supper while you wait for the tasting hall to open. You can enjoy a cheese board, a beef brisket roll, pulled pork buns or cheesy French fry cones.
This is just a taste of what you can expect at Whisky live; there is so much more in store. Whether you are just curious about whisky, or can’t live without it, you should definitely check it out.
