According to multiple reports, Ratanga Junction is set to close its theme park doors and the land will become a commercial, residential and leisure development.
According to Rabie, the theme park will not be closing immediately, the closure is approximately happening in two to four years time and will depend on when the land is required for the redevelopment which in turn will be a function of the state of the economy and market demand for offices and housing. The exact timing is impossible to predict. But once the purchase of Ratanga Junction by Rabie occurred in 2005, the theme park was aware that the park would close for future developments at some point. When the time is right, the land will be redeveloped as a mixed use precinct which will consist of residential, commercial and leisure components.
According to the Daily Voice, the theme parked which opened in December 1998 cost over R350 million rand to build and has currently not been seeing any profit due to low ticket sales and high maintenance costs.
Some of the rides might be sold but Rabie is also exploring the possibility of retaining some of the kiddie rides for a smaller leisure attraction.
But, in the meantime the park is operating as usual and has a special ticket offer when it re-opens 8-17 July. The ticket prices will be the same as in 2006 with R95 for a Full Adventurer ticket and R45 for a Mini Adventurer and Fun Passes.

Tshwarelo Q Mokoena dude we need to go before it closes for good sani #BucketList
We only have like that one amusement park U0001f614
By time, cos must be well boring n half the rides are permi closed when you do go (which makes that only 2 rides open for adults) on any given day #sêmanet #byefelecia
More developments, yes we definitely need more of those…..NOT!!
Joshua Kabwe you must come and take me before it closes! Lol!
We need a world class theme park for a world class city like Cape Town. However, we certainly don’t need more commercial/retail space especially at Century City.
I love it thereU0001f62dU0001f62dU0001f62dU0001f62dU0001f62dU0001f62dU0001f62dU0001f62dU0001f62dU0001f62dU0001f62dU0001f62dU0001f62dU0001f62dU0001f62dU0001f62dU0001f62dU0001f62dU0001f62dU0001f62dU0001f62d
Let’s help bring Ratanga back to lifeU0001f622U0001f622U0001f622U0001f622 who’s with me?!U0001f917
Been saying that for years!
Now Cape Town ain’t going to have no Theme Park no more
Good times with Johan Thiart and Adri Thiart
We don’t need an amusement park. they are a waste of space especially Ratanga. Just like a ghost town when I took my little brother there. Very depressing energy there.
Sorry not sorry pathetic service if that’s what we present to our tourist glad to see it going.
Gino Mzansi Solomon is this true?
Been saying that for ages…
What i don’t get is they open seasonally – why not open daily….
If you can’t then close it down….
About time. I’ve never been because I heard tickets are expensive and how could they have even thought to build a theme park in SA. They should have used that money in a better way
It needs an up grade.
About time, what a shithole
They could have made it work this giving up attitide is just not acceptable any more …give us the goodwood show grounds back if you cant keep this going
Build a dome over it and keep it open all year long 🙂
Surprise, surprise. Especially surprised it took this long. Most poorly conceived and designed edifice I’ve ever seen. No real consideration given to children or older people. Quite missed its own plot.
Yeah the place is a bit run down etc but since I have had kids we have been there a few times and they love it. Will be missed…Rabie Property is smiling U0001f603 though.
They had to cater for local ppl too! Far to expensive and food disgusting and over-priced! Day light robbery! They catered for “tourist” and “the elite” and those ppl only go to places like that “once”! If it was more accessible for locals it could have been far more successful!
Noooooooo… If its for an upgrade then ok
Yip we don’t need an amusement park when we have Parliament !!
MUST BUILD MORE MALLS! We MUST BE BIGGER.MUST ARGGGGH – Lol
100 Million Dowlahs – Muhahaaaaa
Its business….it stands as a white elephant for more than half the year….haven’t you noticed how smaller it gets…parts of has been sold off years ago and been developed….
This was long time coming….
Julius, I’m taking you when exams are over
Chris Chris Verster
Not surprised very expensive rides and entry
Nicky I never even went there
Great article Romi Lara Stoch
Shame but understandable
If you read the article their entry will be very affordable in July.
Reports have been very misleading lately. Especially from the Voice. But Ratanga have excellent conference facilities which still bring in huge income.
Waste of money.
I could not agree with you more. You are absolutely right. Cape Town is incredibly expensive for locals.
Oh no they can’t do that. The problem with Cape Town is everything is in tourist interest n hence the huge price tags to ride on this. While we look for tourist, we must also consider having locals prices to keep it going throughout the year. The little the locals will bring will keep the business going.
THIS COULD HAVE BEEN AVOIDED IF THEY HAD REASONABLE PRICES MORE ENTERTAINMENT FOR ADULTS. IT COST A FORTUNE JUST TO BE THERE FOR A DAY. IF THEY KEPT IT OPEN DAILY FOR ADULTS AND TOURIST AND THEN WEEKENDS , PUBLIC HOLIDAYS AND SCHOOL HOLIDAYS WITH CHEAPER RIDE PRICES IT WOULDS HAVE STILL SURVIVED. i WAS LUCKY TO BE INVOLVED IN THE BUILDING PROCESS IN THE LATE 90’S WE WORKED TILL 11PM AT NIGHT TO BE ON SCHEDULE FOR THE OPENING DAY. IT’S SAD TO THINK IT WAS EXTREMELY BEAUTIFUL WHEN WE WERE FINISHED. SINCE THEY CUT OFF HALF 2 YEARS AGO WE KNEW THEY WERE PLANING THIS DEVELOPMENT 2 YEARS AGO MORE APARTMENTS COMING UP OR ANOTHER HOTEL.
its a pitty, i have loved it
It has nothing to do with the prices. I read that they over capitalized on the project.
I heard they are going to build houses there. Not sure if it’s true.
