Let’s all agree to disagree here, parents hate it when it’s school holidays, because it means they will be on their feet, making food for the little ones, chasing after them while they try to break down the house. The cries, the mess, the shouting… It all gets too much. Thank goodness Kirstenbosch National Botanical Garden is hosting a winter wonderland this year.
Kirstenbosch National Botanical Garden is considered to be one of the most divine gardens in Africa, and arguably one of the best in the world. Kids will definitely love Kirstenbosch, as it is home to a wide variety of unique, beautiful plants and is nestled amid the absolutely splendid mountains of Table Mountain National Park. This will certainly get the kids excited before they even find out what they really will be doing in this veritable Garden of Eden – learning at the Winter Wonderland or, should I say, Winter Wonder-school.
The Kirstenbosch Winter Wonderland takes place from mid-June to mid-July and offers a number of activities each day, including tours around the garden, puppet shows, storytelling and treasure hunts. The adventures require kids to use their mental and physical strengths, while their families also join in for some of the games.
Each day will be dedicated to particular activities, which is thrilling, as there will be a variety to keep the kids intrigued, and for them to have the desire of coming back the next day, and the next, and the next. You get the idea, right?
So, Saturdays are amusing days to be enjoyed by the rest of the family in a Winter Wonders Family Treasure Hunt. This happens from 9 am – 11:30 am, after which any adventure that is lined up for that day takes place. Folk tales will be told and super fun quests will be enjoyed from 10 am – 12 noon on Wednesdays. Thursdays 10 am – 11 am are for story reading and activity programmes. Friday mornings from 10 am – 11 am are dedicated to Struik Nature’s author readings. There are days where the programme is rearranged and they introduce new activities, like the Biodiversity and Waste Art Workshop.
Visit Kirstenbosch Winter Wonders and check out the complete programme for the exciting adventures that are lined up at the Kirstenbosch Winter Wonderland. There is no garden entry costs from 25 June 2016 to 17 July 2016 for children under the age of 18 years. So please, do not let your children miss out on this amazing experience!
