I am extremely biased when it comes to bacon. I’d eat it every single day if I could. I know I’m not the only one. Jake the Dog from Adventure Time cooks bacon pancakes and even has a bacon theme song (that’s how you know bacon is the best). Is pork one of your all-time favourites, too? Pulled, roasted, rolled or fried to a crisp, it all sounds good to me.
Luckily award-winning chef, Bertus Basson is meeting all of our pork-related needs. His food is out-of-this-world and I was lucky enough to try his delicious crispy pork belly when I visited Spice Route. The Pop Up Lunch at Bottelary Hills is the perfect event for all pork lovers, where delicious pork dishes and treats will be the main attraction of the event.
Chef Bertus Basson will be putting on his ‘braai master’ apron. Ready to smoke, sear and sizzle his way through the wood-fuelled pork spitbraai. Once Chef Bertus hangs up his apron, guests will be served a three-course lunch. The meals will be paired with wines from Stellenbosch.
The Pop Up Lunches form part of a series of events, hosted by Bottelary Hills in collaboration with Chef Bertus. Each event will take place at a wine estate and will feature a different chef of many talents each time.
Guests have the chance to socialise before lunch and meet the Bottelary Hills winemakers, and can purchase any wine of their choosing. You bacon believe it!
Here’s the bacon pancakes song by Jake the Dog from Adventure Time. I hope this gets you excited for Chef Bertus’ bacon goodness:
