Occupying a building designed in the Cape Dutch Style on Paarl’s Main Road, about 35-minutes away from Cape Town, Tafel & Tap manages to maintain a distinct city vibe that will appeal to locals and visitors alike.

Tafel & Tap has a range of mouthwatering dishes served throughout the day. They offer freshly baked goods, an eclectic menu, speciality wine and craft beers. A brunch menu is available until 12 pm, with breakfasts that constitute numerous healthy ingredients such as smoked trout, kale and chia seeds.

For lunch and dinner, patrons can treat themselves to a variety of wholesome dishes, from tapas to pizza and pasta, regular burgers to beef fillet and Cape Malay chicken curry. The bakery at Tafel & Tap tempts you with a variety of goods, such as breads, muffins, bagels and pastries, all of them homemade

Executive chef at Tafel & Tap, Laura Truter, explains the layout of the eatery’s menu by saying, ‘we want to offer our guests delicious, unexpected flavours without breaking too far away from classic bistro dishes. I aimed to keep the menu simple and compact, with slightly unusual combinations, yet enough variety to appeal to everyone.’

With over 11 years of experience in designing menus and catering for a range of clients, including some in the Winelands, Laura clearly knows what she is talking about.

The appeal of Tafel & Tap doesn’t stop here though. It is also the home of the Cape Wine Company, so wine tasting is another activity guests can look forward to. Natalie Visser is the tasting room manager at Tafel & Tap, and provides in-depth knowledge of all brands, including those that are low or no-alcohol, produced by the Cape Wine Company.

There is also a fully-licensed wine shop at the restaurant, which stocks not only all these brands, but others from the Winelands region. Erlank Erasmus, proprietor of Tafel & Tap and winemaker at the Cape Wine Company says, ‘As a winemaker, wine is my passion, so a lot of the flavours on our menu have been specially crafted to work well with the wines on offer – but that doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy them without!’

There’s clearly something for everyone at this delightful new establishment. There are even weekly events and themed evenings, such as live Jazz and Blues every Thursday night from 6 pm, and Pizza Night every Saturday. So, if you’re ever in Paarl, come on over to Tafel & Tap and join in the fun.
