End the year on a delicious note by wandering off to the Cape winelands where you can experience Proe Paarl, a month-long feast that unites the distinctive sights, sounds and tastes of the region. Between 16 November and 8 December 2016, Paarl will show off its assortment of offerings including outdoor activities, farmhouse delicacies and celebrated wines.

Whet Your Appetite

Begin your day with a trip to Paarl’s most recognised landmark, the Afrikaans Taalmonument. Throughout the span of Proe Paarl, the Volksmond coffee shop will serve an authentic Afrikaans breakfast of eggs, mieliepap and boerewors, with “boeretroos” or rooibos tea. Not an early bird? Indulge in a traditional lunch of bobotie, melktert and a glass of Boland Cellar wine.

Visit the regal Grande Roche Hotel on 26 November or 15 December, as they host their Bubbles and Braai events, putting a classy spin on flame-grilled meats.

Proe

Paarl boasts a number of breathtaking wine estates and you cannot afford to pass through without stopping by at least one. Admire the splendour of Nederburg homestead as you spoil yourself with a satiating Sunday lunch and heartwarming entertainment.

Bring the Kids

Rhebokskloof Family Day will take place on 26 November and is sure to be a fun-filled outing for the little ones and parents. Kids can enjoy their very own play zone, while mom and dad browse through food stalls and unwind at a beer tasting. For the foodies out there, the Windmeul Cellar Farmer’s Market will not disappoint. This lively market happens on the first Saturday of each month and displays charming homegrown produce.

Outdoor Dining Pleasure

There could not be a better time for a picnic in Paarl than the sunny season. Please your palate with some alfresco dining in the plum orchards at Knus Karoo Kombuis. Alternatively, be amazed by the picturesque views of Table Mountain and the vineyards from Landskroon’s lawns.

Cheers!

Proe

You would making a mistake by leaving Paarl without tasting some of its excellent wines, exhibited in a variety of food and wine couplings. The KWV Emporium offers a fresh sensory experience combining four styles of Pinotage teamed with four food bites and a complimentary glass of Pinotage Sangria. At Under Oaks, give the Proe Paarl platter a go- it’s filled with cheeses and scrumptious Turkish Delight.

This is just a glimpse- there’s much more!
