5 Top spots to watch the sunrise

They say the early bird catches the worm, but in Cape Town he or she will catch a magnificent sunrise too. Even if you’re not much of a morning person, we highly recommend you ditch your bed covers and pillow in favour of marvelling the Cape sunrise at one of these spots.

1 Groot Constantia

This world-renowned wine farm is known for its majestic vineyards that look utterly magical as the sunlight shines upon them. The estate also has several walkways and paths for you to stroll along at daybreak. To revel in the best view, walk right to the top of the estate.

2 Table Mountain

Even though the sun’s miles away, when you’re at the top of Table Mountain, you’ll feel as though you could reach out and touch it. In order to relish this sensational experience, you’ll need to take a hike up the slopes (as the Cableway doesn’t open that early). The arresting vista will make it worth your while.

3 Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens

When you visit at sunrise, it’ll be very clear why this lush sanctuary is one of the Cape’s most frequented tourist attractions. Since the ticket office only opens at 7:30 am, you’ll need to pass through Constantia Nek to access the garden before then. We suggest you park near the garden then catch a ride with a friend to reach Constantia Nek.

4 Muizenberg Beach

As a blue flag beach, you can rest assured the sun will be greeting you from a safe location that’s also celebrated for being environmentally friendly. The vibrant Victorian bathing boxes have an eclectic feel that only enhance the splendour of this much-loved surfing hub.

5 V&A Waterfront

It’s common knowledge amongst locals and visitors alike that the V&A Waterfront comes alive at night. However, the place has a distinctly refreshing feel in the early hours of the morning. Head to the path at the water’s edge and admire Cape Town Stadium as it is lit up by rays of sunshine.
