Amanda Lewis is chef patron of one of our favourite spots, Saucisse Deli, which is situated at The Old Biscuit Mill. Not only is her food incredible, but her focus on environmentally friendly practices is an example to us all. To help us create mouth-watering food and lead a more eco-conscious and sustainable lifestyle, Amanda has recently also released a book simply titled eat food. We caught up with the eco-chef to find out what she loves about living and working in Cape Town.

1 How does Cape Town influence your creativity and food?

Cape Town certainly influences the relaxed type of meals I create and share in my new recipe book, eat food. Food that can be made quickly before heading down to the beach or whipped up in less than 30 minutes after a run in the mountains. The style of photography within reflects the young, inspiring foodie scene of the Cape.

2 What do you love most about this city?

What’s not to love? However, my favourite part of the city is the market scene. You can pop down to a local market in almost any area of Cape Town these days.

If your friend were visiting Cape Town for the first time, where would you take them?

It would have to be a sunset walk along the promenade in Sea Point, then into the CBD for a drink.

4 Describe the city in three words.

Fresh, vibrant and unique.

5 If you were to create a souvenir that represents Cape Town, what would it be?

A snow globe with Table Mountain in the middle and blue glitter to represent the sea.

‘Life is always better by the sea.’
